Job Summary

The Field Lean Champion is the onsite trainer of Lean and coordinates Lean activities within the distribution center adhering to Supply Chain Lean principles/practices as managed by the HQ Lean team. The Field Lean Champion leads the local team of Lean captains (inherent within the SPIN process) and the Lean Specialist in organizing, reviewing and scheduling process improvement events identified during Tier meetings, Gemba processes and Action Boards. This individual will coach peers in Tier meeting structure and protocol, Gemba walks, SPIN process, and Value Stream mapping to improve operational efficiency. The Field Lean Champion is the local SME for Lean activities.

Job Responsibilities

Assists in identifying continuous improvement projects within the DC. Leads and facilitates project teams in the identification and elimination of waste through the use of Kaizen and Value Stream Mapping in the Distribution Center. The FLC is the Distribution Center strength on Lean concepts, Lean tools, and Lean methodology. This role is a teacher, mentor, and coach to others.

Uses Lean principles to identify and improve processes from conception to final design utilizing team input. Trains team members in Lean.

Develops and implements Lean strategy for the DCs and throughout the Supply Chain.

Seeks to progress a Lean Culture by actively participating in process improvement opportunities (Kaizens) while striving for the achievement of process excellence.

Drives Lean deployment through process improvement and efficiency through the elimination of waste and the management and the continuous improvement of operational standards.

Participates with other Supply Chain managers in developing project strategies, schedules, resource alignment and financial analysis to support availability, inventory productivity and cost productivity.

Assist the Supply Chain management team with selecting appropriate projects which support the overall organization’s strategic objectives.

Plans, schedules and leads Lean project assignments in evaluation, selection and adaption of various Lean techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Report/track the progress, milestones, savings, and other key aspects of projects that are active on a regular basis.

Uses project management tools, A3s, to monitor project progress and drive deeper levels of organizational accountability.

Develops and mentors a direct report(s) through training, development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace. Manages the creation and design of long term training and development programs to enhance supervisory proficiency levels and ensure continuing professional expertise and development.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience in a lead position (i.e., distribution or production environment) or High School Diploma/GED and 6 years of experience in a lead position (i.e., distribution or production environment).

At least 1 year of experience assisting management with the assignment of work and responsibilities to coworkers, and/or other managerial tasks (i.e., monitoring work, taking attendance, facilitating Lean initiatives).

Green Belt certification from an industry leading Six Sigma training provider who’s certification process requires the completion of two Green Belt projects or a commitment to successfully complete Six Sigma GB certification within two years of accepting the role.

Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: opening a document, cutting, pasting and aligning text, selecting font type and size, changing margins and column width, sorting, inserting bullets, pictures and dates, using find and replace, undo, spell check, track changes, review pane and/or print functions).

Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: opening a workbook, inserting a row, selecting font style and size, formatting cells as currency, using copy, paste and save functions, aligning text, selecting cells, renaming a worksheet, inserting a column, selecting a chart style, inserting a worksheet, setting margins, selecting page orientation, using spell check and/or printing worksheets).

Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: inserting, rearranging, hiding and deleting slides, navigating between slides, increasing list level, adding, centering and editing text, changing views, inserting a table or a note, moving objects, printing outline view and/or running a slide show).

At least 1 year of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.

Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Associate’s Degree

Ability to influence others without formal lines of authority.

At least 1 year of Lean experience in manufacturing or logistics environment.
