External Relations Advisor (Convent. LA)

Shell is currently seeking an External Relations Advisor for the Convent Refinery

This position provides External Relations support for the Convent refinery operations and projects; manages non-technical risks, social performance, community relations, internal communications, and advocacy plans for the site. The position will work with site leadership and also with local governments, regulators, media and other stakeholders to support business plans. It will also provide emergency response support for the site and manage the site’s internal communications program.

Some of the dimensions of this role are;

An understanding of broad energy industry issues and stakeholder perspectives.

Understanding of political and regulatory trends related to our businesses in the region.

Ability to think strategically and translate business objectives into multi-channel internal and external communication plans.

Ability to secure the trust of senior business leaders and key external stakeholders.

Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including sound writing and speaking skills, and experience in media relations, issues management, stakeholder engagement, and the identification/management of non-technical risks and key stakeholder relationships that may impact Shell’s reputation.

Proficiency in using the appropriate digital channels (MS Word, social media, internal comms) to communicate inside and outside the site.

Strong listening and influencing skills to enlist involvement/support from all levels, inside and outside organization.

Capable of interfacing and coordinating with wide variety of groups, and inclusive in approach.

Proven track record as self-starter.

Willingness to assume management of complex projects.

Pays attention to detail and sets priorities to meet deadlines.

Emergency response skills.

Requirements

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum of three (3+) years experience in external relations.

Comprehensive understanding of the local community.

Experience establishing relationships with key stakeholders/governments, local LA Parishes is preferred.

Strong stakeholder engagement, social performance, non-technical risk integration and accountabilities are preferred.

Ability to drive integration and interact closely with other members of the local community.

Experience developing digital media channels is preferred.

Ability to travel to other Shell facilities national/international (~10%)
