The Executive Division of the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Executive
Assistant for its New York City Office. The primary responsibility of the Executive Assistant is to provide
clerical and administrative support to the Attorney General’s senior staff.
The Attorney General is both the “People’s Lawyer” and the State’s chief legal officer. The OAG, employing
over 1,700 people across New York State, serves all New Yorkers in numerous legal and regulatory arenas,
including vigorously protecting the rights of investors and consumers, coordinating state-wide criminal
investigations, promoting economic and social justice, encouraging harm-reducing public health strategies,
and preserving the State’s environment. The OAG also advises the Executive branch of State government and
defends actions and proceedings on behalf of the State.
Applicants for the Executive Assistant position must have 2-5 years of work experience, including prior
experience working with high level executives; be an energetic person with exceptional oral and written
communication skills; have the ability to multi-task while working in an environment with shifting priorities;
and, work efficiently with minimal supervision. This position requires someone who is flexible and thrives in a
fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must, as is the ability to learn and master new
computer based applications. Punctuality is a must. In addition, the selected applicant must develop a
thorough understanding of the role of the Office of the Attorney General including, but not limited to, the
functions of the divisions and bureaus, very quickly. A college degree is preferred, but not required. Prior legal
or government office experience is a plus.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Working cooperatively to support Executive leadership with administrative tasks and projects that will
often require independent performance of clerical duties;

• Managing the day-to-day calendar for four executive staff: Chief Deputies, Chief Operating Officer and
Counsel;

• Regularly handling confidential material and information and exercising discretion in doing so, from
distribution of correspondence/mail to preparing documents for review and signature;

• Scheduling and coordinating office meetings and events. This includes use of the OAG’s video
conference system, pre-registering outside guests with building security; greeting and directing visitors
courteously and professionally;

• Assisting senior staff in coordinating travel arrangements, reconciling travel card charges and
completing expense reports;

• Maintaining office equipment and supplies, including troubleshooting issues, placing service calls;
• Document management, photocopying, scanning and shipping; and
• Performing other duties as assigned.
