Entry-Level Public Finance Analyst – Bond Pricing Practice

PFM is currently seeking an entry-level professional to serve as a Public Finance Analyst . The Analyst will work with PFM’s Bond Pricing group to assist with primary market issuance and price negotiations in our Charlotte, NC office.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and develop proficiency with debt structuring concepts and use of both DBC and Munex software
    • Learn to develop reasonable assumptions, cost estimates, etc. for use in debt structuring
    • Create debt service structures, incorporating outstanding debt when necessary
    • Monitor databases and analyze outstanding debt issues for possible refunding
  • Create database/debt overview relating to outstanding debt for each client
  • Create and manage spreadsheets for analyzing financial information, and developing and presenting financing scenarios for clients
  • Contribute to input and review of disclosure documents (official statements) and transaction legal documents for all transactions to which you are assigned
  • Provide information of financial/technical portions, such as calculation of overlapping debt, debt service schedules, refunding plans, etc.
  • Primary responsibility for careful review of all dates, numbers and data
  • Assist with review and presentation of general and economic data, as needed
  • Prepare Power Point presentations for use in rating agency communication, client communication, or marketing purposes
  • Communicate internally relative to ongoing projects, status, training and needs, including initiation of periodic coordination and reprioritization
  • Assist in support and execution of financing transactions
  • Organize, prioritize and schedule your work for each client project and/or financing transaction
  • Organize, track and maintain analyses, reports, and correspondence relating to advise provided to clients and others relating to client projects, in support of project manager
  • Prepare and propose materials, reports and summaries for delivery to clients

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a demonstrated track record of academic success (minimum GPA of 3.25 / 4.0 is strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative modeling experience preferred. Candidate should be familiar with financial transactions including complex financial modeling and analysis. Advanced Excel skills (including VBA) are highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and effective personal communication skills are a must. Develops effective written correspondence. Actively listens to others and conveys information clearly and concisely. Can make effective presentations and routine communications to smaller audiences. Excellent listener.
  • Ability to articulate basis for interest in public sector/municipal finance. Related coursework and/or professional experience (including internships) related to public finance desired.
  • Ability to think and act strategically. Looks at issues affecting the team from a larger, longer-term perspective than just day-to-day task-execution. Demonstrates flexibility when approaching complex situations and often uses creative methods/solutions to avoid conflicts and/or negative outcomes.

Compensation includes salary, sign-on bonus opportunity, and comprehensive benefits package. PFM also has a full benefit package including profit sharing and 401K.
