Entry Level Electrical Engineer

Electronic Systems Defense Hardware Engineering Group is looking for an entry level Digital Design Engineer to support FPGA designs through all phases of development. The ideal candidate is expected to perform activities such as requirements generation, design architecture, RTL coding, synthesis, test bench development, lab testing, and product support.

The hired candidates will participate in the Year One Program (a program for all college hires in engineering) which includes personal effectiveness and technical training, mentorship, career and rotation planning, socialization and networking, and more.

The position requires a U.S. person with the ability to obtain a minimum of a Secret Security Clearance.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Seeking 2018 Graduates Only (Jan 2018-Aug 2018)with one of the following degrees:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher required, transcript may be requested

  • Current Security Clearance (Secret), or eligible to obtain one
  • Interest and experience in FPGA Design / Development, including
  • Be able to follow micro architecture and detailed design document
  • Solid understanding of digital logic design
  • VHDL (preferred) or Verilog HDL coding

-Familiarity with FPGA vendor tool – Xilinx ISE/Vivado, Altera Quartus II, etc.

  • Experience in generating test bench
  • Familiarity with some revision control tool (git, cvs, clearcase, etc.)
  • Familiarity with static timing analysis concept
  • Working knowledge of lab test equipment (oscilloscope, etc.)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter and a good team player
  • Logical problem solver
  • Experience and willingness for lab testing


Preferred Skills and Education

  • Digital simulation using Modelsim/Questa
  • Experience with DSP fundamentals and FPGA implementation
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience dealing with legacy designs
  • Experience in leading a design team
  • Experience in hardware design and hands-on lab debug
  • Interest in Radar systems
  • Experience with generating scripts (Perl, Tcl, Python)
  • Working knowledge of C/C++
  • Experience with high speed ADC/DAC interface, SERDES, PCIe
