Enterprise Application Developer

This position is accountable to the Director of Information Services, analysing, implementing, integrating, and supporting specialized applications of complex campus-wide information systems. Work assignments require knowledge of information applications, languages, protocols, platforms, and performance management tools. Evaluation and design skills are required for creating and maintaining integrations between information solutions to meet technical and functional requirements to accommodate present and emerging technologies. In addition, exceptional communication skills, both oral and written are essential, as the incumbent in this position must possess the ability to determine and understand institutional and user needs and to relate those needs in the form of information system design, performance, or programming specifications. These skills will also be needed to relate the status of the information system in documentation, policies, procedures and standards.

Responsibilities for the individual in this position include planning, programming, and implementation for information applications that are critical to campus functions and institutional mission, where problems will adversely impact large or critical groups of constituents.

This individual works under general guidance and supervision, demonstrating proficiency in the area of specialization reliably and consistently. The individual implements solutions using a range of tools and platforms, analyzes and solves problems, and may design new solutions under general direction.The individual may be dedicated to supporting single or multiple applications or single or multiple functional areas as subject matter expert in those applications or areas.

Responsibilities

Program Applications Development

1. Program complex applications for major systems

2. Create applications to meet technical, functional, and non-functional requirements

3. Establishing testing plans, and test/debug applications

4. Develop automated workflows and interfaces to create operational efficiencies

5. Prepare technical and user documentation

Project Leader for Major Systems 1. Gather systems requirements, and create project plans

2. Manage application projects

Production Support 1. Analyze processes and procedures and design solutions to improve efficiency

2. Troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements

Technical Advisor 1. Suggest and implement coding standards

2. Assist IT staff and end users in technical issues

General Administration 1. Provide weekly status updates to the Director of Information Services

2. Attend IT staff meetings

3. Attend training and seminars

Qualifications

Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, technology or a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of one or more specialized information applications, platforms, and tools.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of 3GL and 4GL programming languages, such as Visual Basic, Python, SQR, SQL, PL/SQL, PeopleCode, or .NET.

4. Proficiency in applications design and development.

5. Communication skills both oral and written that are professional, effective, sensitive and clear.

6. Proficiency in Office applications : Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and calendaring.

7. Ability to work in a team environment.

8. Ability to quickly organize and prioritize multiple tasks and competing demands.

9. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external consistuents.

10. Ability to learn new applications or complex subject matters quickly and effectively.

11. Ability to think critically and analyze complex or technical information.

12. Strong orientation to customer service for diverse campus community.

13. Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

Preferred:
1. Experience in writing complex interfaces using modern protocols such as REST.

2. Experience designing and planning functional-area solutions using specialized applications.

3. Experience integrating specialized applications into an enterprise information system such as PeopleSoft.

4. Proficiency in multiple 3GL, 4GL, and statistical programming languages, such as Visual Basic, Python, SQR, SQL, PeopleTools, or R.
