Reporting to the VC-CFO, Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers Enterprise information technology services to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) under the leadership of the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO).

With broad impact across UCSD’s multi-billion-dollar research and education enterprise, Academic Technology Services (ATS) provides a variety of digital technology services to faculty, research staff, postdoctoral, graduate and undergraduate students, including all academic departments, schools and divisions. ATS coordinates across campus IT providers (including ITS, SDSC, Calit2, the Library), the Schools, Divisions, Departments and labs, Academic Affairs, Research Affairs, Teaching and Learning Commons, and other critical stakeholders to deliver coordinated services critical to all aspects of the research enterprise. ATS teams include Research IT Services, which provides direct outreach and resource recommendations to faculty, conducts investigation & integration of new technologies, and coordinates between campus technology providers to deliver solutions directly to researchers, and Educational Technology Services, which provides technology services, support, and resources to the UC San Diego academic community, facilitating teaching and learning in service of the University’s educational mission.

Install audiovisual equipment as part of campus and medical facilities projects from small systems to complex video conference room systems. Install audiovisual systems for alterations of existing systems and structures for the campus and medical facilities. Install complete audiovisual packages including but not limited to projectors, displays, wiring, cabling, computer controls, rack-building, control systems, sound systems, and video conference systems. Troubleshoot, diagnose, isolate, and repair the cause of malfunctions of audiovisual equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Install complete AV packages. This includes, but not limited to, projectors, displays, wiring, cabling, computer control, rack-building, control system, sound systems and video conferences systems.

• Mount and install electric and manual projection screens with the ability to flush mount screens in a T-bar ceiling.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, isolate and repair the cause of malfunctions on audiovisual equipment.

• Use power tools including, but not limited to, hand tools, band saws, electric drills, cordless drills, electric circular saws,routers,hand tools, volt/ohm meters, electronic test equipment, measurement tools.

• Design and fabricate electronic circuits and/or mechanical devices as needed.

• Must be willing to work an alternate schedule.
• Must be able to lift up to 100lbs, perform work at heights, climb ladders, work from scaffolding, pull cable, and work in tight small spaces for long periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated experience and ability installing complete audiovisual packages including but not limited to projectors, displays, wiring, cabling, computer controls, rackbuilding, control systems, sound systems, computer hardware, and videoconference systems (including furniture installation and modification).
• Demonstrated experience and ability in mounting and installing electric and manual projection screens with the ability to flush mount screens in a T-bar ceiling.
• Demonstrated experience and ability to design and fabricate electronic circuits and/or mechanical devices as needed for various University applications.
• Demonstrated experience and skill in trouble shooting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing Media Event Support equipment. Audiovisual equipment includes all basic projection equipment including but not limited to projectors, displays, control systems, video players and recorders, tape recorders, printers, test equipment, broadcast quality cameras, document cameras, and white boards.
• Knowledge of control systems including but not limited to Extron, Crestron, Biamp, and SP Control Media Wall Boxes software and programming IT modules.

Preferred

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications. Skill in reading and interpreting electronic schematic diagrams.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
• Ability to drive a van and electric cart.
• Must provide proof of insurance, valid driver’s license and clean driving record upon hire and each year thereafter. Will be a participant in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
• Must be able to operate a scissor lift.
• Must be trained in ladder safety and fall protection.
