Job Description

Reports To: Senior Project Manager

Summary: Construction technicians are responsible for the field construction, performance to standards, and deployment to standards, documentation, cleanliness, and safety of the projects for which they have been assigned. Construction technicians will work independently and with other personnel to perform construction activities and routine maintenance tasks. They will build, test, ground, and ensure maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company. Construction technicians must be knowledgeable of all aspects of field operations including inside unit tasks, activations, receiver change outs etc. Applicants must be self-motivated.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Meet regularly with onsite Property Manager, General Contractors, and Sub Contractors.
  • Construct and oversee the construction of plant such as IDF Lock Boxes, MFH2 Electronics, Dish Installations, Hardline Plant & Cabling, Fiber Plant & Cabling, Twisted Pair Plant & Cabling, CATV Head end & Distribution systems, Data systems including CMTS, Routers, Switches and Wireless bridges/access points.
  • Document with POP readings, photos, and marked up as builts for projects and scopes which will be required to sustain the optimal operation of your assigned projects, systems and plants.
  • Able to set up and effectively operate all required hand tools and test equipment including Satellite Meter, CATV Meters, Fiber Meters, and PC based test platforms.
  • Able to construct all aspects of Coaxial, Fiber, and Twisted pair distribution networks.
  • Able to prioritize, manage, and report on the various project status, scope and duties on a daily basis.
  • Perform hand off inspections of new and upgraded MDU site networks with Operations Managers in different regions. Performing corrective actions as necessary to ensure a quality product is handed off.
  • Manage the end user service level experience and satisfaction as it relates to the performance, and reliability of the DirecPath services for which they have subscribed at the MDU sites for which you have been assigned.
  • Participate in plant safety, health and environmental programs.
  • Other tasks as identified and conveyed by Project Managers.

Education and Pertinent/Proven Experience. The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with Multi Family Housing DirecTV systems.
  • 3 years’ experience with low voltage communications systems and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings.
  • Ability to write detailed reports as well as good verbal communication.
  • Post-secondary education and/or a technical trade certificate is an asset.
  • Experience with Docsis and Ethernet Data delivery systems is a plus.
  • Successfully pass and maintain DirecTV SBCA Certification and other network certification and testing programs as deemed mandatory by DirecPath.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license and maintained a good driving record.

Compensation:

  • Hourly pay rate based on experience, and level of expertise.

Schedule:

  • Must be flexible and adapt to changing project schedules and scope.
  • Up to 70% travel required.

Computer Skills:

  • Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, and the ability to learn how to effectively use maintenance software to input data and research parts.
  • Proficiency with PC’s basic commands in order to manage Data network components.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations 60 feet, or on high rise rooftop locations.
  • Manual and mechanical digging may be required.
  • Opportunity is 90% outdoors, must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
