The Atlanta Community Food Bank is a nonprofit organization supplying food and grocery items to over 600 partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and North Georgia counties.

Position Description: The primary purposes of the Driver I positions are to provide delivery and receiving transportation services, to provide inter-facility transportation services, to provide distribution transportation services to partner agencies, to provide transportation services for special events/campaigns and fundraising and to provide service through the overall Transportation Function & Distribution Department. The Driver reports directly to the Transportation Manager.

Purposes, Responsibilities and Duties

1. Provide receiving transportation services

a. Provide receiving transportation services for donors of grocery products to ACFB

i. Provide receiving transportation services to donors requiring full-sized trucks.

ii Provide receiving transportation services to Atlanta’s Table project donors providing perishable/prepared and special-event foods

iii Provide receiving transportation services to organizations conducting food drives (including pre-drive barrel & supplies distribution)

b Provide receiving transportation services for selected Kids In Need products

c Provide receiving transportation services for the Reclamation project

d Provide receiving transportation for equipment, supplies, and other facility-related materials.

2 Provide inter-facility transportation services

a Provide inter-facility transportation services for equipment, supplies, and other facility-related materials

b Provide inter-facility transportation services for recycled containers and materials

3 Provide distribution transportation services to partner agencies

a Provide local/metropolitan- Atlanta area transportation services to partner agencies

b Provide distribution transportation services to partner agencies selected to receive Atlanta’s Table project prepared and perishable foods

4 Provide transportation services for special events/campaigns and fundraising

5 Provide an excellent level of customer service to our affiliates, partners and agencies.

6 Safely operate all ACFB vehicles and equipment

7 Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1 Education

a High school diploma or equivalent required; some college a plus.

b All equipment certification within 90 days of hire.

2 Required qualifications

a Must possess a valid Georgia Drivers License (Class A); must have 3-4 years experience driving trucks with standard transmissions

b Commitment to obey all traffic laws and operate equipment in a safe manner. Must provide a copy of most recent MVR – no moving violations in past three years.

c Ability to work with diverse groups of people; good communication skills; provide consistent excellent customer service

d Must successfully complete food handling training program.

e Must be in good physical condition with an ability to perform light-to-moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.)

f Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours

g Experience with use of pallet jacks, forklifts and other warehouse equipment.

3 Preferred qualifications

a Clear MVR past seven years.

b Basic computer skills; working knowledge of MS Outlook and Internet

c Knowledge of City of Atlanta and surrounding areas and the ability to find various donor sites.

Physical Demands

This position work requires that an individual work in all types of weather including inclement weather and obscure visibility. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use. This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus. Lifting should not normally exceed 50 pounds. Regular local travel on a daily basis required. Routine stops which require driver to load and unload truck contents.

Required experience:

• warehouse equipment, i.e. forklift and pallet jacks: 1 year
• Clean MVR with no accidents or tickets: 7 years
• driving around the city of Atlanta and surrounding areas: 1 year
• driving trucks with standard and manual transmissions: 3 years

Required licenses or certifications:

• CDL Class A
• Current Medical DOT card
