Director of Membership

To provide the strategies, leadership, creativity and resourcefulness to ensure the growth and success of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts membership program. Responsible for the development, marketing and management of overall program implementation in order to increase and deepen membership participation.

Minimum Qualifications

A comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of membership, direct marketing, customer service and donor cultivation. Management and supervisory skills. Strong working ability in all computer skills related to word processing, accounting, and data analysis with essential knowledge of Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge. Experience in working with a cross-museum team organizing and implementing a wide range of programs and events. Experience with membership campaigns, direct marketing, analysis and budgeting required. Experience in a museum or non-profit environment preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to effectively organize and coordinate multiple projects; and to work well with the public.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college of university with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History or related field preferred or an equivalent combination of college and related experience. Significant years of experience in a museum membership environment or equivalent required. Experience overseeing the strategic and operational aspects of both a membership and annual fund program required.
