Dining System Product Engineer – Cruise Industry

Scope of work:

This is a full time, hourly position that reports to the Shipboard F&B Product Manager. The position will perform various functions required to implement shipboard technology such as off the shelf products. The off the shelf systems include different dining applications and integration solutions to other core reservations systems.

Required skills/competencies:

  • Understanding of relational database fundamentals and working knowledge of the product data model
  • Understand the interdependencies between the product and other products within the enterprise; this includes integration to core reservation systems
  • Configuration and integration testing of the off-the shelf package at the company’s headquarters staging environment
  • Ability to debug existing web services
  • Experience in the development and testing of API integrations
  • Experience with SOAP based webservices
  • Estimation of incoming technology requests and cost/benefit analysis
  • Context Definition and Solution Sketching
  • Execution and evolution of the product road map
  • Supporting the end users through UAT cycles
  • Physical installation of the off-the shelf package in the vessels’ production environments; travel approximately 25%
  • End user support during stabilization & operational transition support
  • Support of production like development & test lab environments
  • Create and maintain relevant product documentation
  • Exhibit subject matter expertise on the low level design of a product
  • Understand the product’s entire technology stack
  • Building test cases to evaluate nonfunctional requirements
  • Digesting requirements & user stories

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Adept at learning new Relational database models
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and reporting tools
  • Database tools (ToadSQL Developer); SQL Server tools
  • Working knowledge in creating SQL queries and scripts, primarily SQL Server
  • Development experience using Java, J2EE, Spring
  • Demonstrate flexibility during times of change and ability to adjust to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Adept at independently conducting research and understanding when escalation to a manager is appropriate and escalating in a timely manner
  • Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies independently and with training
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Experience with Restful webservices, and Spring webservices

Preferred Education:

  • College Grad
  • Application Software Delivery Life Cycle, Implementation, and Support: 5 years
  • Relational Databases & SQL: 5 years
  • Report Writing Experience: 5 years
