Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach

The Hockomock Area YMCA is looking to hire individuals to facilitate the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program in the YMCA of Central Massachusetts’ service area. The evidence based year-long program helps individuals learn about and adopt the healthy eating and physical activity habits that have been proven to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Time Commitment: The class is 1-hour in length for 16 weeks and continues to meet bi-weekly for 3 sessions and then monthly for 6 months. Lifestyle Coaches are compensated for 1.5 hours for each class session which include time for data entry and the 1 hour in duration of class.

Requirements : Candidate will need access to an onsite computer (provided by the YMCA) within 24 hours of each class to input the participants’ data into the HIPAA compliant national database (AthenaNet). Looking for instructors for both day and evening classes. Candidate must be able to provide transportation to YMCA Branches or off site locations. Experience working with health seekers and/or facilitating change in small groups preferred.

Benefits: All team members will receive a free adult membership to the Hockomock Area YMCA (also usable at the YMCA of Central MA branches).

Training: All instructors will need to be trained in the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program curriculum and AthenaNet. Online pre-requisites must be completed prior to registering for in-person training. The training will be held during two weekdays in early April in the Central MA service area (likely at the Boroughs Branch in Westborough).The Hockomock Area YMCA will pay for the cost of the certification for the 2 day training (lunch is provided).
