Designer II – IoT

Microsoft is looking to recruit a talented UX designer to join the to join the Microsoft IoT Central team.
We are building a brand-new cloud based application which will simplify how customers build and integrate (IoT) Internet of Things into their businesses. Microsoft IoT Central will reduce the barrier to entry for customers looking to connect their physical products to the digital world by simplifying the user experience for creating and managing their IoT applications. It will help enable our customers to achieve their digital business transformation by facilitating the creation, deployment, and operation of IoT applications from user to administrator.

Our customers are everyone from small businesses all the way up to Fortune 100 companies. Everything from lightbulbs to cities will become IoT-enabled and our mission is to offer the most scalable, powerful, secure IoT platform for all those ‘things’. It’s an exciting opportunity to join the Microsoft IoT Central team to help design a brand-new product that will have huge impact for customers.

The UX Designer must have strong visual and interaction design skills, be able to effectively collaborate on a cross-functional team through a collaborative design process to deliver rapid prototypes, user stories, concept sketches, storyboards, information architecture, interaction design and visual design. The ideal candidate possesses passion and conviction for design with the ability to help guide the product team through the process of delivering the best user experiences to our customers. We’re looking for a great candidate with outstanding visual design skills, a demonstrated ability to effectively partner with Program Managers and Developers to shepherd end to end experiences from concept to ship.

Requirements:

3 years’ industry experience in Visual Design

Candidates should be able to demonstrate storytelling and end to end thinking at sketch / concept level

Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

Strong collaboration skills

2 years’ experience in UX

2 years’ experience designing against user flows and architecture

Experience creating and managing brand libraries and visual guidelines ideally across a large organization

Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills

Demonstrable ability to work confidently with Program Management, Development, Product Planning, Brand, Marketing and Research

Understand the array of technical constraints, user goals and business requirements that shape current and future products

Fanatical about detail.

A portfolio demonstrating visual/interaction design skills

Proficiency in design tools (Illustrator, Photoshop and Sketch).

Good level of competency in HTML, JavaScript, CSS and industrial design are also a great benefit.

Passion for design and ability to effectively share your point of view and expertise with project team members.

Highly Desired Skills:

Understanding of visual design capabilities, including composition, layout information hierarchy, typography and color.

Visual design skills including detailing out specs and interaction patterns

Experience and a working understanding of how to apply user research data

Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.

Additional Notes

A portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity and proven experience in telling stories, building UI models, generating detailed wire frames, developing prototypes and delivering comprehensive specifications.
