Designer I

Position Summary: Creates mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies or system configurations using 3-D CAD Systems, compiling Bills of Materials. Works under moderate supervision.

Job Responsibility

  • Models, details, documents and verifies mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic parts, subassemblies, assemblies or systems.
  • Creates 3-D models, depicts relationship of component and parts; identifies dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances and materials
  • Prepares pressure vessel calculations with minimal guidance from engineer using pressure vessel software
  • Prepares Bills of Material and specifications; creates full package documentation required
  • Ensures quality of drawings according to department standards
  • Makes various calculations and frequently uses charts and tables to accommodate the design process
  • Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems; recommending possible solutions or alternate construction; modifying drawings as required; may confer with engineers to resolve issues
  • Prepares Bills of Material relative to design documentation
  • May propose possible solutions or alternate construction to engineer
  • Attend educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks
  • Attend training to enhance skills necessary to progress career
  • Requires use of computers, proficient using 3-D CAD design; proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), proficient with email system, Microsoft Outlook preferred; strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment
  • May mentor less experienced Designers
  • Meets any and all deadlines as required by project schedul

Basic Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or Technical School Training in ME, EE, Computer Aided Design Technology or related field
  • 6-9 years designing and documenting mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have CADWorx

Skills/Requirements

  • Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, structural, electrical, and electronic equipment
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills

Education and Experience

  • Experience in related industry
  • Working knowledge in compression, power generation, or offshore oil and gas.
  • Familiarity with any of the following tools: CADWorx Plant Professional 2008, CADWorx Equipment, ISOGEN, PVELITE, PRO-E, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical, Oracle
