Reporting to the Director of Publications and Printing, the Designer is responsible for conceptualizing cross-media campaigns, coordinating strategies for attracting new students, positioning the university effectively, and designing and overseeing production of a wide variety of printed and/or web-based projects. Conceptualizes, designs and produces various publication campaigns and projects related to raising university visibility and increasing enrollment. Using Macintosh-based graphics software, creates comprehensive proofs and pre-press ready digital art. Envisions and executes communication strategies for on-campus clients, including determining project specifications, performing research and ensuring information flow and timely progress on projects. Completes projects to specifications and within university and departmental policies and procedures. Assists in production schedule maintenance by attending meetings with other staff. Effectively uses photography to support the brand image. Uses photo equipment to take/edit photos as needed for design projects. Creates a variety of digital graphics and develops graphics for video production. Regularly trains on new web graphics production techniques. Oversees permanent storage of digital files. Ensures computers, operating systems, graphics software, storage systems and associated hardware are current and compatible with the printing industry. Completes printing specification forms for Purchasing Department to use for bidding process. Works within state procurement guidelines to secure estimates on jobs requiring multiple bids. Arranges for completion of printing jobs once bids have been awarded.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in design, and five years of professional experience in design/production/graphic arts required. Proficiency using Macintosh-based graphics software (such as Adobe Creative Suite) preferred. Experience in digital and freehand illustration, digital photography, PSD, TIF, JPG and raw files and designing for the web highly desired. Familiarity with environmental design helpful. Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite for printing and web graphics. Outstanding creative abilities, imagination and ability to work independently. Knowledge of offset sheet-fed and web press printing, digital four-color process printing, and conventional and digital graphics production techniques. Experience with marketing and brand management. Knowledge of HTML and CSS and design principles for mobile. Ability to manage multiple projects with great attention to detail in a deadline-oriented environment. Working knowledge of digital pre-press and bindery processes. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with production team, university community and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing digital files and fonts, as well as troubleshooting the Macintosh operating system, preferred.
