Daycare Director – Autism Specialty School

NHS is currently seeking a Daycare Director for our new autism specialty school in Baton Rouge, LA. We are seeking an experienced professional with a passion for children with autism and other special needs. This is a full time year round position. Director or Administrator experience is required.

POSITION DETAILS

As the direct supervisor of the pre-school, the Daycare Director will be the primary contact for families. The positions primary roles are to follow LA Department of Education and Department of Human Services guidelines, have profit and loss responsibility of the budget and maintain excellence in the current program through ongoing trainings and staff supervision. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

  • Provide leadership and expertise in the field of early childhood education, including program development, curriculum, and child assessment, incorporating LA standards, and addressing the development of the whole child.
  • General management of the facility, including the following minimum duties:
  • Administering finances, personnel, maintenance, meal planning and preparation and transportation
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintain a center that meets or exceeds the company guidelines, licensing requirements, health regulations, and fire codes, and keep all permits and licenses current.
  • Administering the facility’s program objectives and activities
  • Conduct tours for prospective parents, enroll new families and assist the management’s efforts to quickly ramp up and meet the pre-school’s enrollment goals.
  • Create and execute local marketing plan (both internal and external) necessary to drive new enrollments and maintain desired capacity
  • Recruit, train and retain quality staff
  • Handle staff scheduling and other personnel-related matters
  • Establish positive working relationships and communicate effectively with corporate office, staff, parents, children, state licensing authorities, vendors and other members of the community.
  • Designating a staff person who is responsible for compliance for the PA Department of Education and Department of Human Services regulations in the Director’s absence
  • Overall program planning
  • Written evaluation of staff persons on a regular basis, a minimum of one evaluation every 12 months
  • Utilizes self-assessment as a strategy for professional growth
  • Other duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have at least one year of daycare center or preschool teaching experience
  • Experience working with children with autism or other special needs is highly preferred
  • Director candidates must have at least one of the following criteria:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or related field PLUS one year of experience
  • Associate’s Degree in related area PLUS one year of experience
  • National Administrator credential PLUS one year of experience PLUS 6 credit hours in child care, child development, or early childhood OR 90 hours of equivalent training
  • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) PLUS one year of experience
  • Three years of experience as a Daycare Director PLUS 6 credit hours in child care, child development, or early childhood OR 90 hours of equivalent training
