Data/EDI Technology Consultant

This position works in direct partnership with customers and business partners to implement electronic data interchange (EDI) services between Unum’s systems and other vendors (e.g., benefits administration providers, technology partners, employers, brokers, and banks).
The Consultant works closely with clients and partners and provides expertise on Unum’s data connection capabilities, system functionality and setup procedures.
This position requires an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Unum’s data connection technology, strategy and supporting processes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
:

• The consultant provides expert advice and technical support on all aspects of Unum’s EDI process and oversees the setup and maintenance of data connections with our clients and technology partners.
  Accountabilities include:
• Negotiating agreements for ongoing data distribution and support with customers and third-party vendors
• The creation/interpretation of connection and system integration requirements, testing and implementation of new data interchanges, and ongoing daily operational support
• Provide EDI subject matter expertise on Unum’s data models and technology, in support of Sales, Implementation and other key internal partners
• Additional Responsibilities:
• Involvement in process improvements, system enhancements, and general problem solving to improve the customer experience and team effectiveness
• Build strong partnerships with internal business, field and IT teams
• Develop project plans and delivery timelines related to the data exchange process and resolution proposals for identified errors

Qualifications

Job Specifications
:

• BS degree preferred or equivalent experience in a related technical field with 4-6 years IT or EDI
  industry experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a proven track record of working in direct interface with customers
• Strong leadership qualities that drive change to achieve business results
• EDI/IT experience working directly with customers and/or carriers
• Experience developing EDI files for HRIS or payroll systems
• In-depth knowledge of Unum Database model to be supported
• Experience developing and reading HIPAA ANSI 834 files
• SQL expertise developing complex select statements for analyzing data, investigating file issues, and reporting on data as requested
• Desktop application experience using Microsoft Excel and/or Access
• Experience working with systems integration
