Job Description:
Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics

The Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics will work on the Analytics and Insights a team, cross-functional team responsible for delivering innovative solutions to all areas of Sun Life’s US business. As part of the predictive modeling team, the Data Scientist will be responsible for working with business partners to determine how machine learning can streamline workflows and improve decision making, and then quickly deploying prototypes to test different theories.

Responsibilities:
Lead predictive modeling projects

Collaborate with business partners to determine how data can improve decision making

Manage timelines and business sponsor expectations

Build relationships and trust with key stakeholders

Supervise the work of junior team members

Develop predictive models and prototypes

Formulate hypotheses to be used in model development

Use data-mining techniques to collect and compile data from a wide variety of internal and external data repositories

Build high-performance predictive and prescriptive algorithms using cutting-edge statistical techniques (e.g. neural networks)

Use data visualization tools to develop visuals that can be used to effectively communicate technical findings to a non-technical audience

Teach data science concepts to more junior members of the team

Build Excel or web-based prototypes to deploy machine learning algorithms

Collaborate with the adoption experts to develop implementation strategy for each prototype

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:
Understands approaches to customer segmentation, advanced analytics, and predictive modeling

Highly organized, analytical thinker

Strong disdain for bad complexity

Ability to run and interpret the results of models – distill large amounts of complex, detailed information into clear, summaries and recommendations

Ability to work independently

Strong written and verbal communications skills

Excellent team player; ability to work across functions at various levels and influence without authority

Strong execution and follow through

Education & Experience:
2-5 years’ experience, or a master’s degree in a quantitative field

Experience with 3rd party modeling tools and programming languages (e.g. R, python)
