Data Entry/Dorm Resident Assistant

Heading Home operates an emergency shelter (the Albuquerque Opportunity Center or AOC) for men experiencing homelessness.

This position is two fold and requires the employee to input accurate and detailed data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) database for up to four hours per day (1-5pm) and then move into the Dorm Resident Assistant role for an additional four hours per day (5-9pm). This totals eight hours per day, Monday through Friday from 1-9pm, and pays $10/hour. Both parts of the job are located at AOC, our emergency shelter for men.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Data collection and data entry relating to admissions and exits from all shelter programs in the statewide database; Homeless Managements Information System or HMIS.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining an emotionally and physically safe atmosphere.
  • Transport AOC residents to and from AOC when necessary
  • Assist in Resident Intake, which includes induction into shelter program, reviewing Welcome Packet with new residents, storage of resident property.
  • Sorting and organizing the pantry, laundry and storage rooms: linens, toiletries, clothing donations and food donations.
  • Interaction and socialization with residents is imperative; developing a good rapport with residents and keeping the Security Guard informed of any and all known potential behavioral problems that may affect the dorm’s security.
  • Education and Experience:
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent work experience with persons who are homeless and/or low-income persons and/or families.
  • Must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must know how to set boundaries.
  • Strong verbal communication skills needed.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Etc.:
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to participate in meetings and training sessions.
  • CPR cert or ability to become certified within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs., and navigate a large facility with stairs, walkways, ramps.
  • The ability to cover other shifts is considered a plus.
  • Sensitivity, energy, good communication skills and a sense of humor!

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $10.00 /hour
