The Data Entry Clerk I performs data entry for the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) related to Critical Data Elements (CDE) in the Trust Asset and Accounting Management System (TAAMS) from title and leasing / contracting source documents to address backlogs, or to correct CDE errors found in post-Data Quality and Validation stages. This position operates a data entry device to record or verify a variety of business and statistical source data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs data entry via computer, online data terminal, key-to-tape, key-to-disk, or similar device.

Verifies data entered, where applicable.

Enters a wide variety of source documents such as computer-generated reports, program coding sheets and other narrative and statistical information using computer-based database management software.

Following instructions, collects and organizes management and technical data for entry into reports and databases in prescribed formats.

Performs data entry tasks with a high degree of rapidity and accuracy.

Verifies accuracy, and corrects data using automated data edit reports.

Reviews and annotates data sheets, reports and other documents.

Maintains records covering verification statistics.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a minimum of 6 months experience in data entry and verification, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

Basic knowledge of clerical and office practices, procedures, terminology and systems

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite ( i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, etc.)

Excellent written and verbal communications skills with knowledge and ability to utilize appropriate grammatical skills at a professional level

Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and coworkers, as well as a wide range of people with diverse backgrounds

Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with exceptional discretion

Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-one-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
