Data Analyst, Annual Fund Programs

Reporting to the Deputy Director for Annual Fund Programs in the Office of Alumni and Development (OAD), the Data Analyst for Annual Funds Programs supports and promotes the overall planning, implementation, and management of Annual Fund Programs’ activities, as well as oversees data integrity that supports the strategic direction for the team. The Data Analyst will manage and maintain multiple data-driven processes and applications; including segmentation, mailing file data, and data integrity. This includes working with large data sets, and an understanding of gift sources to effectively perform analysis, assessment, and reporting.

The Data Analyst is responsible for leading data initiatives to ensure strong retention, reactivation and acquisition and works with multiple constituents; in conjunction with the Deputy Director, the Data Analyst works to remain proactive in all client and vendor engagements and anticipates issues that may arise, while independently seeking quick and thorough resolution; partners with colleagues throughout the department to resolve unforeseen situations; creates and implements comprehensive and data driven integrated direct marketing solicitation strategies to raise charitable support for various annual funds, through mail, phone and electronic communication; oversees marketing segmentation and appeal code tracking for all schools/programs.

Serves as lead data analyst and strategist, as well as the data liaison between partner units within OAD (i.e. prospect research, information services, gift systems); supports the monitoring and reconciliation of data to university database systems; understands and enhances database processes for capturing gift, demographic, and other data and coordinate staff as needed for data entry; administers creation of tracking and reporting systems within AFP and oversees data management for telemarketing program and assigned direct mail and e-mail campaigns; creates monthly metrics and ad-hoc reports used to target trends and progress of goals for efforts supporting fundraising, as needed; proactively initiates data analysis and other quantitative projects including annual fund assessment, appeal and channel tracking; processes required data to identify and promote trends, including annual fund assessment, appeal and channel tracking, volunteer performance reporting, and data mining.

Liaises with the off-site vendor in overall management of the automated technical solutions (software and hardware) used during phone-a-thons, and other times; prepares and executes assigned projects coordinating with internal and external vendors as needed; analyzes and reports ROI and cost-benefit analysis of direct marketing projects; performs additional duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent required; minimum three years’ related experience. Must possess strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office; ability to use current desktop office technologies as well as the ability to adapt and learn future technologies.

Some evenings and ability to travel on occasion required.

Must have excellent organizational and data management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously; ability to set priorities, function in a fast-paced work environment, and communicate across all levels of the Columbia community is essential; adaptability and ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to work cooperatively with other staff; demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; strong writing skills and advanced data manipulation skills (i.e. pivot table and vlookup); self-learning, outstanding strategic thinking, and analytical skills; outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and experience handling highly confidential information; strong initiative, creativity, curiosity, organizational ability, and attention to detail; understanding of SQL, Crystal Report or similar programs, and able to adapt to and use future technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in higher educational institutions, or knowledge of fundraising systems, or other complex organizations is preferred.
