Data Analyst

Virgil is seeking a Data Analyst with strong business knowledge to help guide the company’s analytics infrastructure. This individual will play a key role in creating a data-driven culture within the organization and enhancing our analytics capabilities. The role reports into the CEO and is based in Chicago, IL.

About the role

Data is the lynchpin of our organization. We are looking for an exceptional data analyst that will help refine our capabilities in this area. The work will include everything from redefining our data model; integrating 3rdparty data sources; managing and leveraging our data warehouse; providing analytical support to key functional areas including user acquisition, marketing, customer support, sales and finance; and building machine learning capabilities into our platform.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in a quantitative or business-oriented field, or equivalent practical experience

Additional Qualifications

• Written complex SQL queries to extract data
• Experience with command-line scripting
• Experience with data structures and algorithms
• Ability to work in a Linux/Windows
• Processed large amounts of data in an on-premise or cloud environment
• Integrated 3rdparty data sources
• Collaborated with internal stakeholders (e.g. engineering, marketing, sales, customer support, finance) and external stakeholders (e.g. partners, customers, data providers)
• Analyzed and model structured data using advanced statistical methods and implemented algorithms and software needed to perform analyses
• Highly competent with advanced Excel functions (e.g. VBA, pivot tables)

Preferred Skills

• Experience with SQL Server (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS) databases
• Experience with ETL tools to extract data
• Experience programming in R
• Experience programming in Python
• Experience with business intelligence software (e.g. Tableau, Domo)
• Developed and managed a data warehouse

Differentiating Skills

• Perform machine learning, natural language, and statistical analysis methods, such as classification, collaborative filtering, association rules, sentiment analysis, topic modeling, time-series analysis, regression, statistical inference, and validation methods

Masters in a quantitative field: computer science, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, analytics, or other related field
