Customer Service Tech

BASIC JOB DUTIES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others.
  • Assembles work area supplies according to requirements for specified tests or procedures. Restocks work area and central supply area when appropriate.
  • Performs specimen collection by venipuncture as required following documented policies and procedures.
  • Performs specimen collection by micro-collection procedure as required following documented policies and procedures.
  • Maintains positive specimen identification throughout the specimen collection process. Demonstrates appropriate use of the PPID device on a consistent basis.
  • Verifies specimen requirements and appropriate collection procedures prior to specimen collection.
  • Records daily workload on appropriate logs as necessary.
  • Demonstrates appropriate Customer Service skills when answering department telephones, taking and giving messages, transferring calls as needed, and reporting laboratory results verbally and/or by fax.
  • When trained in the Receiving Area, operates the computer system utilizing routine programs to receive specimens and to retrieve laboratory data. Assures that specimens are placed on the Front End Processor in a timely manner. Assures that specimens are delivered to various departments as appropriate and in a timely manner. Assures that “shared specimens” are received as appropriate. Has the ability to identify and resolve basic problems associated with the Front End Processor.
  • When trained in the Triage Area, has the ability to prioritize, sort, and group specimen labels. Ensures that specimens are collected in a timely manner. Follows-up on uncollected specimens and cancellations.
  • Instructs employees in department techniques and procedures according to established policies.
  • Assists with filling phlebotomy supply orders for nursing stations and OutReach clients. Notifies appropriate personnel when additional supplies are needed.

Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Completion of phlebotomy training program preferred or phlebotomy experience required.

LICENSURE:
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
