Facilities Services is responsible for:

  • All repairs and maintenance of building interiors and exteriors

  • Landscape and grounds

  • Building utilities, heating and refrigeration

  • Mail services

  • Motor pool

  • Campus custodial services

  • Work control

  • Campus stores

  • Administration, accounting and information technology functions necessary to support these areas

The Auxiliary Services departments of Residence Life, University Food Services Dining Halls, Sports Facilities, and Strand Union Building are responsible for maintaining the facilities they manage.

  • Residence Life has 9 residence halls where living and learning come together to provide students with a “home-like” environment as they navigate their academic career

  • University Food Services Dining Halls consist of 2 residential dining halls that collectively serve 10,000 meals per day, 7 days a week

  • Sports Facilities manages the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, Bobcat Stadium, Hoseaus Fitness Center, Shroyer Gymnasium and the Bobcat Tennis Center

  • The Strand Union Building provides campus meeting rooms and ballrooms as well as use of the SUB Recreation Center and maintains several retail food service areas

Duties and Responsibilities

Custodians provide cleaning and maintenance service for MSU .

Primary emphasis is on:

  • Cleaning public areas (including restrooms)

  • Carpeted and hard-surface floor care

  • Trash removal

  • Room set-ups

  • Other related duties

Custodians may work individually or on a team in an assigned area. Other duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Dusting and polishing furniture

  • Washing windows and mirrors

  • Polishing bathroom and shower fixtures

  • Replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes

  • Handling commercial (industrial) cleaning chemicals

  • Moving supplies up and down stairs

  • Maintaining good communication channels with supervisors and coworkers

Please note that responsibilities will vary slightly between home departments.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

All relevant education and experience that you submit in your application will be considered.

Experience with custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, etc.

Experience working effectively with minimal or no supervision.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Experience providing excellent customer service.

Certifications, classes completed, or knowledge of safety procedures utilized in a custodial, janitorial or housekeeping position.
