Summary

The purpose of the position of Cost Accountant is to support the Controller with corporate month – end closing activities, operations reporting analysis, support annual Labor & Overhead standard rates, product cost analysis new product master data setup, and month -end reporting. Support the accounting for new capital assets and cost studies. The cost accountant is responsible for preparing monthly inventory turnover reports and reviewing the allocation of overhead costs.

Essential Job Functions

Review and analyze monthly manufacturing costs comparing actual costs to estimates explaining variances.

Support management teams on manufacturing cost and inventory reporting.

Monitor and maintain inventory costs integrity in a timely and accurate manner

Interface with business, finance and manufacturing personnel at the plant and corporate level.

Participate in the annual budgeting process used to establish standard manufacturing rates

Responsible for inventory review of Nonconforming Material (NCM).

Review and analyze inventory, product costing, and margin reports, research variances and conduct studies to improve efficiency and profitability.

Work with manufacturing and plant control personnel on product costing and “what if” proposals.

Work on special projects as required

Maintain additive cost tables Identify inconsistent costing lot sizes versus batch sizes

Participate in month end closing process as it relates to costs.

Support account managers related to “what if” scenarios for selling products

Support manufacturing department in executing an effective/efficient inventory management program by performing analysis on turns, slow/impaired products, cycle counting, appropriate reserves, etc.

Manage fixed asset program including capital project management, maintain fixed asset register, timely disposition of asset disposals/additions, and other critical assets tasks.

Education/ Certification

Bachelor’s degree in business (finance, accounting, etc.) and 3+ years in manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidate will have 2+ years costing experience

Experience and Skills

Must possess solid work ethic (self-starter and highly motivated).

Excellent positive professional demeanor with emphasis on interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize tasks and meet required deadlines.

Required: Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Detail-oriented.

Good leadership qualities, takes initiative and has a “can-do” attitude

Knowledge of SAP

Knowledge in Manufacturing environment

Ability transform financial and accounting data into useful information

Supervisory Responsibility and Reporting:
There is no Supervisory responsibility with this role
