IBM Canada’s Corporate Citizenship Education Programs Manager is a dynamic individual with experience in public education & government, project and program management and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This individual is a thought leader and has a network of relationships in all levels of public, private and nonprofit sectors. IBM Corporate Citizenship is aligned to three pillars: education & skills, health and resilient communities, as well as employee engagement. Experience in public education, communications, and public affairs are all assets for this position. Ideally, the citizenship manager also brings a network of relationships in federal, provincial and local government.

The successful candidate for Corporate Citizenship Education Programs Manager will have outstanding written and oral communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking. The candidate will be self-directed and creative in identifying solutions and building coalitions to achieve results and have significant experience in managing complex projects. They will require exceptional skills in collaboration with other IBM functions.

This position will focus primarily on expanding the P-TECH program in Canada. P-TECH is a grades 9-14 public education reform initiative. P-TECH extends high school from the traditional four years, or grades 9-12, to six years, or grades 9-14. When students graduate, they earn both their high school diploma and an associates, or two-year postsecondary, degree that is directly aligned to industry needs. What makes P-TECH powerful is that at its foundation, P-TECH is a partnership that combines the expertise of public and private systems and institutions – school districts, community colleges and industry – with high-level government support.

This role is based in Canada, and the role may include substantial travel, including several weeks a year in NY, especially in the first year. The position reports to the Americas Director for Corporate Citizenship and includes responsibility for execution of IBM’s education and other citizenship programs across Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a plan to replicate IBM’s P-TECH (ptech.org) model in Canada.
  • Develop sustained partnerships and relationships with key organizations and influencers relevant to IBM programs and business.
  • Manage successful local implementation and impact of global Corporate Citizenship programs, identifying opportunities for collaborative leveraging and engaging IBM volunteers’ skills and talents.
  • Execute IBM’s community response to disasters when appropriate.
  • Execute IBM’s Citizenship portfolio and represent IBM on matters of CSR and social good across Canada.
  • Work with IBM Communications to ensure effective communication of IBM’s key messages and strategies relating to Corporate Citizenship and CSR to internal and external audiences, and coordinate with other IBM functions including HR and IBM Innovation, Citizenship and Government Programs (ICG)

Required Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills and experience in project management. Ability to lead, manage and implement high-level projects. Ability to manage time and responsibilities effectively and drive programs to successful completion. Can perform a variety of assigned tasks and work within established procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate orally and in writing about ideas and concepts to senior level audiences, and with excellent presentation skills to various internal and external audiences, including experience in media relations and public affairs.
  • Knowledge of public policy processes as they relate to education, and the role and operation of local, provincial and federal government, and the not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to make informed judgments leading to effective partnerships and sustained relationships with a wide range of individuals and organizations including government, not-for-profit organizations, and Think Tanks, for Corporate Citizenship program delivery and to position IBM’s leadership in Corporate Citizenship and CSR.
  • Ability to negotiate agreements with a range of external organizations with advice from IBM legal.
  • Problem-solving skills. Able to use a range of tools, data, techniques and procedures to identify, understand and resolve various job related issues.
  • Ability to work flexibly and in a multi-geography team, sometimes under pressure, and to combine strategic and administrative tasks within the role.

Candidates will be required to provide examples of specific experiences of success in these areas in previous roles.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Project Management – 5 years, Public Policy – general government 3-5 years, Public Policy – public education 3-5 years, negotiation 3-5 years, exceptional communication skills

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
