Hoodline creates stories for local media organizations around the country by mining data sets for news and trends. We help our partners provide their audiences with richer, deeper local news coverage in ways that haven’t been possible.

As part of our process, we use text templating software to automatically turn our data analysis into articles about many different locations at once.

We need part-time editors to ensure that the stories are accurate and interesting to read.

Responsibilities:

• Produce stories using Hoodline’s software and editorial systems
• Write, edit and fact-check each story draft you receive based on specific directions for the template
• Publish each story to our platform in a timely manner (typically same-day turnaround from when the story is assigned to you)
• Be available within agreed-upon time frames for troubleshooting and consultation with our team

Requirements:

• English: able to write and edit in AP Style (newsroom experience preferred but not required)
• Technology: comfortable with Google Docs, Slack and other online productivity tools, able to learn our content management system and other in-house software quickly
• Work schedule: able to work remotely, following specific instructions in a timely manner
