The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has been an early collaborator in the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In collaboration with San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH), UCSF is supporting the development and scale-up of local contact tracing programs.

Contact Tracing Specialist involves analytical studies on a variety of policies, projects, programs and issues in support of a function, research initiatives, program and / or organizational unit, or in research of new or changing systems and programs. The role will assists in policy and program planning, development, administration, management and implementation; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to department administrators and other stakeholders.

Contact Tracing Specialist uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices and organization policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. The Contact Tracing Specialist will demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. This role primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope and develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.

The Contact Tracing Specialist will complete multiple levels of training and gain experience in contact tracing (CT), case investigation (CI), and coordination of wrap-around social services to support community members to effectively isolate and quarantine, such as food banks, mental health services, housing, etc. Following the training and service, the Specialist will serve as an integral member of the implementation research team and will perform analytical studies to help improve work flows and programmatic effectiveness, and support CI and CT trainings. The Specialist will also support administrative tasks such as data cleaning, coordinating meetings and trainings, supporting scheduling, budget management etc. The Specialist may be called upon to provide technical assistance to local and international health organizations—remotely or in person.

The Specialist will need to be willing to:

  • Conduct phone calls with COVID-19 patients and their close contacts to provide support and gather information.
  • Connect patients and their contacts to community resources
  • Collect and record information on symptoms into a digital platform
  • Communicate with COVID-19 patients and their contacts in a professional and empathetic manner
  • Work some weekends and evenings
  • Participate in all trainings
  • Work location – remote during pandemic; Mission Hall when we are able to return.

    Please note: This is a full time contract position through March 31, 2021.
