Child Support Specialist

The Child Support Specialist performs paraprofessional legal work authorized by Title IV-D of the Social Security Act providing services relating to establishment of paternity, and the establishment, modification, and enforcement and collection of child support, foster care and medical support obligations for families going through hardships.

Essential Duties:
The Child Support Specialist is responsible for:
Managing a large caseload consisting of 450-500 cases enforcing child support orders and medical support orders through various judicial or administrative processes.

Identifying and evaluating relevant case issues, researching and reviewing information to determine appropriate legal or administrative actions.

Interviewing and negotiating with parents and/or attorney’s

Preparing legal actions and corresponding documents.

Work includes skip tracing/locating individuals, negotiating, and facilitating to resolve child support disputes.

Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent certificate and a minimum of one year of work related experience in a high volume customer service position and/or working with a complex computer system. Two years of work related experience is preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Ability to problem solve by using critical thinking and utilizing resources/researching to find solutions that are best for the family and the department. Pre-employment assessment process requires candidate to use independent and in-depth thought processing to evaluate the best interest for a client and their family.

Offer of employment contingent on criminal history check, Motor Vehicle Report, and education verification. Must have valid driver’s license, if you are from out of state, you must obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of hire date and you must not have any major violations, including DUI, DWI, and/or DWAI conviction(s) in the past three years.
