Chemeketa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Advisor

This is a part-time faculty pool for available assignments during the 2017/18 academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on department need. Should a review of your application result in the intent to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted by phone for an interview.

Position Summary

This position provides one-on-one business advising and problem solving to area business owners and potential business owners in Chemeketa’s District (Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties). Advising topics may include, but are not limited to, forms of conducting business, bookkeeping, marketing, social media, employee management, goals, financial analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered

Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.

Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire

Initial salary placement will rarely extend Step 1.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Enter session notes and follow-up information into Center IC (Oregon SBDC Network’s MIS for client management) for each meeting with a client which tracks time spent, subject discussed, action items, etc.

Attend an Advisor Orientation, meetings, and provide presentations as a Chemeketa SBDC representative.

Advising may occur at the SBDC, occasionally at the businesses site or via videoconferencing.

Use word processing, statistical, spreadsheet and/or database software, (expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Google).

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a business related field -OR- Five(5) years in business ownership experience can be substituted for this requirement.

AND

Five(5) years in business advising, business coaching and training within businesses – OR – three(3) years in owning, managing, and/or operating a business or a combination thereof.

AND

Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement analysis.

AND

Working knowledge of computers and business software applications.

AND

Understanding of business and the ability to analyze business problems and develop solutions.

AND

Computer proficiency is needed to perform duties of the job. Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and QuickBooks preferred.

AND

Experience as an instructor of adults in business-related topics.

A broad knowledge of business issues and topics.

Ability to empathize with clients and quickly translate experience into practical advice.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and professional literature.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently preferred.

In-depth training or experience in financial analysis, market analysis and planning.

Supplemental Information:

Preference may be given to Chemeketa employees based upon current labor/employment contracts.
Teaching assignment may include evening and week-end courses and the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies e.g., cable television and on-line/internet courses.

Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program.
