Carpenter III

This position is within the Renovations Department of Facilities Management Services.


Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
This employee serves as a lead person in carpentry crew and assists Carpenter Foreperson and Superintendent coordinating the work flow and performs carpentry assignment.
Duties:
  • Coordinates activities of Carpenter II’s, Carpenter I’s and Trades Helpers. Repairs and maintains doors, cabinets, bookcases, floors and other structures. Installs doors, windows, tiles, floors, ceilings, etc. Performs bench work in the carpentry shop. Builds room partitions and other structures. Studies blueprints and building plans to determine materials needed and dimensions of structures. Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring. Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Develops material take off lists, field reports and documents for supervisors and other duties related to the Renovation Unit.
  • Serves as the lead worker in jobs involving other trades in the absence of the Foreperson.
  • Assists supervisors in generating punch lists, walk through, inspection and some light estimating.
  • Responsible for pre-construction lay-out under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Ensures all the project tools are properly secured.
  • Trains and mentors subordinates in other trades.
  • Performs other assigned duties

Qualifications
: Associate degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications
:

A successful candidate should possess:

  • Knowledge of locks/Panic mechanisms, and the automatic doors and sliders. Handicap accessibility rules and some knowledge of fire code as related to carpentry.
  • Ability to drive a forklift.
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment, practices, and procedures of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to access confined spaces.
  • Ability to plan, layout, and execute carpentry work of average difficulty.
  • Ability to work from sketches and blue prints.
  • Experience as a lead person.
  • Ability to follow written an oral instructions.
  • Have a valid GA driver’s license.
