Carpenter II

This position is within the Renovations department of Facilities Management Services.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Duties:
  • Will perform skilled manual work at the journey level involving the building, repairing, refinishing, and installing of office furniture and related items. Duties also involve the construction and maintenance of structural woodwork, furniture, etc.
  • Installs doors, windows, tiles, floors, ceilings, door locks, etc. Builds and repairs desks, tables, chairs, bookcases, etc. Repairs and maintains doors, cabinets, bookcases, floors, and other structures.
  • Erects frameworks for walls and lays sub-flooring. Hangs and finishes sheetrock. Hangs and finishes drywall.
  • Builds room partitions and other structures and installs ceilings.
  • Selects building materials, constructs forms and ladders to assist with performing duties.
  • Will work with Foreman in studying blueprints and building plans to determine materials needed and dimensions of structures.
  • Serves as a lead worker over a small group of employees, Instructs others in the proper use of tools used in the carpentry trade.
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Qualifications
: Technical or vocational degree and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or GED and four years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications

A successful candidate should possess:

  • Ability to drive a forklift.
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment, practices, and procedures of the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools for the carpentry trade.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to access to confined spaces.
  • Ability to plan, layout, and execute carpentry work of average difficulty.
  • Ability to work from sketches and blue prints.
  • Experience as a lead person.
  • Must have a GA driver’s license.
