CAD Operator / Mechanical Engineer (Entry Level)

General Description:

Will assist Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers with engineering and design projects, as well as provide “clean up” and revisions to Solidworks and CAD drawings, as needed. Will manage and coordinate multiple, simultaneous projects including the design and management of laser parts orders while providing consistent and thorough follow-through and attention to detail. Will interact with colleagues, vendors and customers and may get involved with design troubleshooting and problem solving on bigger projects. Design concept and creative input opportunities with advancement.

Job Duties (included, but not limited to) :

  • Design laser parts
  • Convert and revise customer drawings
  • Process and coordinate the distribution of drawings with project managers, customers, vendors, etc.
  • Organize and manage Solidworks files.
  • Archive and maintain spreadsheet(s) of drawing revisions and submittals.
  • Manage and maintain project file structure and naming convention.
  • Interact with customers and vendors.
  • Occasional overtime may be requested.

Work and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with Solidworks and/or AutoCAD (three plus years preferred). Willing to work with an engineering student.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Sheet metal manufacturing knowledge a plus.
  • Able to take accurate measurements with a tape measure and caliper.
  • Experience with designing conveyors and/or industrial packaging lines a major plus.
  • Familiarity with WIN 7 / WIN 8and XP operating systems.
  • Must be able to read prints, articulate print discrepancies, and recommend resolution to customers
  • Must be articulate, flexible and highly productive, but also capable of independent work and initiative.
  • Must be able to work within established deadlines and specific time lines.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and people skills.
  • Must be able to take directions and follow instructions.
  • Problem solving skills are highly valued.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills required.
  • Must possess excellent written and grammar skills – good communication skills essential for team-based working.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges.

Hiring Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and clean driving record (for insurance coverage on company vehicles).
  • Must pass a test which demonstrates proficiency with CAD/AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Must pass a drug test.

Education Requirements:

  • College degree (mechanical engineering), engineering certification or currently in school working towards a mechanical engineering degree.

We are a small company doing big business in Joliet, Illinois and we are in immediate need of a CAD Operator/Engineering Assistant in our Engineering Department.

Salary: $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 /year
