Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating 10 institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Report directly to the Materiel Administrator. Develop, implement and manage contracts for services and commodities that are highly technical, scientific or large volume and/or high cost. Receive requisitions and prepare purchase orders. Contact vendors and sales representatives for product information. Negotiate and prepare contract and award bids. Prepare detailed specifications for bidding. Review vendor quotations to determine conformance to specifications. Prepare or evaluate requisitions for completeness or appropriateness. Supervise and train staff.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, procurement, purchasing, contract administration, or related discipline, and five years experience in purchasing or related area. Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED: Experience using the State of Nebraska Payroll and Financial Center (PFC), including the PFC Procurement Module. Supervisory experience. Experience in basic accounting, purchasing practices and/or specialized area of purchasing.

OTHER: Transcripts required prior to appointment. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume setting. Analyze and evaluate purchasing requisitions. Working knowledge of Payment and Financial Center (PFC) Procurement Module. Excellent oral and written abilities. Ability to work within a team setting. Expert level use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Operation of an adding machine or calculator.
