Business Intelligence Intern

As a Business Intelligence (BI) / Data Engineer Intern in DEG (DRAM Engineering Group) group at Micron Technology Inc., you will be involved in establishing and developing reporting and analytic solutions such as dashboards to monitor key metrics & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for various functions within DEG. You will also be responsible for setting up sharepoint infrastructure and leveraging various reporting and graphing tools such as Tableau to create management reporting.

The ideal intern candidate will have taken or plan to takes courses in end to end BI software development & deployment life cycle. Creates, reviews and reports status of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified objectives. The role requires the candidate to design and deliver dashboards, balance scorecards, analytical models & reports to assist stakeholders drive towards department and company strategic goals. The candidate is also expected to help in identifying trends, anomalies, or other points of interest that require further investigation relative to process gaps and redundancies. The ideal candidate needs to have aptitude to develop business and technical acumen.

Key expectations for this role:

  • In this role, the BI/Data Engineer intern will focus on understanding of business processes, key metrics to manage these processes, and the data behind those metrics that drive the business forward
  • The candidate is also expected to play a key role in setting up infrastructure for metrics & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) critical to measuring system level processes and measurement of effective initiative execution
  • Generate summary and specified dashboard accounts which represent operational data in brief and intelligible format, suitable for the target audience, which includes stakeholders, management leadership, department managers and directors
  • Awareness of industry benchmarks & trends and share with business partners & leadership. Carry out quality assessment of data, data reports and the accompanying decisions
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-changing environment that requires a high degree of multitasking with minimal supervision

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Accountable for creating and maintaining information requirements repository, including all associated metadata for metric catalog, relational models, star schema etc
  • Work with sponsor to understand the business well enough to be a driving force in how information solutions are developed, implemented, and delivered
  • Deliver relevant and actionable insights through reports, dashboards, and documents to fulfill business needs

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Course work in end to end software development life cycle including data extract, transform and load (ETL) development, visualization, testing and deployment
  • Development experience with one or more data visualization/reporting tools (Tableau, Qlik, Business Objects, Hana Analytics, Microsoft Reporting Services, Hana Analytics
  • Experience in Dashboard and Scorecard creation
  • Course work in some of the following: T-SQL and with BI tools like Microsoft BI tool stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS), Tableau etc
  • General purpose programming languages is desired (Python, JavaScript, C++, Windows PowerShell, Visual Basic) and/or web development languages
  • Course work in database knowledge, database administration skills, and experience with the Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent attention to detail & follow-through skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to consistently achieve desired results.

Education:

Pursuing a BS Degree Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related fields. JR or SR standing preferred. Or MBA seeking student with BS in CS/MIS.
