Automation Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer who loves automation and cloud to join our growing team in Helena. The ideal candidate is a person who has not only an understanding of software engineering practices but also infrastructure tools like Docker – someone who’s comfortable both in an IDE and getting hands dirty on the command line.

Our core infrastructure is hosted on AWS running Linux/CoreOS and Docker, but you don’t have to be an expert in any of these; we’re looking for world-class engineers to support connections to our ever-growing list of partners, to write Python scripts and maintain Java applications and integrate with our DevOps engineering staff to ensure timely fulfillment of requirements and daily delivery of new features.

Key responsibilities include:
Develop and enhance our automation infrastructure to improve efficiency and usability while saving cloud computing costs.

Maintain and add functionality for new and existing automation tasks.

Work collaboratively to provide infrastructure guidance to the team for short-term issues and long-term planning and vision.

Work with other team members to maintain consistency with the goals for development operations.

Build, improve and support file automation including file transfer, processing and security.

Build, improve and support batch automation including nightly automation tasks such as database ETL load tasks or report generation.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Computer Science or related discipline.

Experience with standard Linux/UNIX daemons (apache, nginx, ssh, cron, bind, ldap, syslog, ntp).

Demonstrated proficiency writing complex scripts in a standard scripting language (Bourne shell, Python, Ruby, Perl)

Ability to design and build web applications from the ground up to help automate redundant tasks. (Play Framework/Scala/NodeJs)

Experience in a programming language such as Java/Python/Go.

Experience communicating with databases (MySQL/Postgres, MongoDB) from a programming language and supporting basic SQL.

Work and play well with others; SoFi is a collaborative environment.

Plusses:
Knowledge of Consul, Redis, and ActiveMQ

Experience using distributed source code management tools such as Git or Mercurial

Knowledge of Atlassian’s suite of tools, JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, BitBucket.
