Auditor (Freight Payment/Logistics)

JOB SUMMARY:

An Auditor is responsible for investigating and troubleshooting all invoices needing review that are not auto-processed by identifying and verifying rates and guidelines in the Client/Carrier contract prior to approving payments. In addition, the Auditor will work with the client to identify issues and offer suggestions on how to improve their carrier contracts by addressing inaccurate and problematic issues and violations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (of the job)

  • Attends startup team meetings with the Account Coordinator to discuss any pertinent information needed to begin auditing a new client
  • Ensures that contracts and pricing agreements from the clients are current
  • Informs clients of any unreasonable charges found on carrier invoices. After a thorough critique without a resolution, posts questionable bills for client review.
  • Interacts and establishes relationships with the carriers to gain clarification or resolve discrepancies of pricing agreements. Has knowledge about applying correct discounts per contractual agreements.
  • Possesses audit skills for small package, LTL, TL and knowledge of other modes
  • Has ability to use NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) manual to correctly class LTL freight
  • Identifies and provides backup details to Claims Department for overpayments
  • Handles balance due bills in a timely and expeditious manner
  • Reviews accuracy of the freight rates set up in the system by the IT Department as needed, including EDI information
  • Teams with the Account Coordinator in updating the client’s internal processing instructions (ICP) for auditing
  • Shares any general carrier pricing issues or changes with other audit team members
  • Works with the Rate Librarians to have current rates loaded or updated in the systems; will test any new or revised rates
  • Accountable for utilizing all audit tools as appropriate to complete the audit process
  • All other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous transportation experience preferred
  • Must be extremely proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Ability to ask questions and learn quickly
  • Ability to be detail-oriented in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment
  • Optimistic, positive thinker and team player
  • Ability to be flexible and handle changes efficiently
