OPPORTUNITY PROFILE

Associate

Mezzanine, Junior Capital and Equity Investments

Middle Market Private Investment Fund

Chicago, IL

Corporate Overview

Our client is a junior capital fund that invests in middle market, private, entrepreneurial companies across a wide range

of industries in niche manufacturing, distribution and business services companies, in conjunction with private equity

sponsors and management teams. The firm focuses on buyouts and recapitalizations of family or privately-owned

businesses, orphaned corporate divisions, or businesses with inactive owners. It has an established and successful

track record covering many years of managing institutional capital in the mezzanine & equity co-invest finance niche.

Position & Career Opportunity

Management believes this is a very exciting opportunity for a career building experience – to be an impact player with

a highly successful investment firm focusing on leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations that has a history of more than

20 years. It is important to note this opportunity may not offer a long term advancement track but can be a relevant

equity and/or leveraged finance career building step for 2-4 years and not designed to progress into a longer term

career with the firm, unless the professional has earned an M.B.A.

The Associate will participate at all levels of deal execution and portfolio company investment oversight and

management. Activities include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Screen new investment opportunities
  • Financial modeling of new investment opportunities
  • Financial, business and industry due diligence on new investment opportunities
  • Compose both investment approval and briefing memos on new investment opportunities
  • Participate in meetings and conference calls with management teams, private equity and mezzanine debt firms,

and intermediaries (investment bankers, business brokers, etc.) for new investment opportunities

  • Assist with closing new investments
  • Perform quarterly financial reviews of existing portfolio companies
  • Assist in preparing business development presentations

Qualifications of Candidate

  • Completion of a commercial or investment banking training program is preferred.
  • The training must be supplemented with direct deal experience in leveraged finance or M&A advisory.
  • 2-4 years full-time, relevant work experience as explained in the prior bullet points.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in accounting, business or finance.
  • Solid understanding of accounting and finance.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with extensive financial modeling and analysis experience
  • Superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-starter with an ability to multi-task and be accountable in a team environment in meeting critical deadlines
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
