Associate Manager, Accounts Payable – Accounting Shared Services

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing first line review of department results; financial and management reports; subsidiary accounts; and department results for area of responsibility, ensuring functional results are within goals and are in compliance with regulations, accounting principles and company policies. Conducts audits as needed to ensure compliance with contracts, terms, and regulations and takes necessary steps to resolve issues. Acts as primary contact for escalated issues and works to resolve them.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides first line of review of the financial and management reports for functional area of responsibility. Responsible for accuracy of the statements, reports and subsidiary accounts. Presents findings to management.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships and networks with all departments and appropriate outside contacts that interact with the department.
  • Primary Contact for escalated internal and external customers to obtain required information, documents, or payments.
  • Manages accounts for reconciliation and resolution of open items. Research and correction of escalated issues and exceptions.
  • Ensures functional activities and reports are in compliance with accounting principles and adhere with company policies. Implements new accounting policies and ensures those policies are communicated to team. Writes or approves departmental procedures. Ensures all necessary approvals are obtained before implemented.
  • Audits compliance with contracts, negotiated terms, and applicable regulations. Responsible for external communications to resolve issues and for communications to management for non-compliant items.
  • Prepares reports in support of internal and external audits. Assists with resolution of open items.
  • Trains and audits work of others for accuracy and timeliness. Recommends process and procedural improvements.
  • Oversees and provides leadership to contracted third party individuals.
  • Responsible to review departmental results and recommend corrective action plans as necessary. Proposes improvement recommendations for systems, workflow and procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 year of experience in an analytical role in accounting, finance, business management or auditing or High School Diploma/GED and at least 6 years of experience in an analytical role in accounting, finance, business management or auditing.
  • Knowledge of applicable accounting regulations.
  • Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
  • At least 1 year of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.
  • Willing to travel up to 15 % of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Accountancy or MBA.
  • CPA designation.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Access (for example: designing and creating simple queries, modifying data types, adding dates, working with required fields and/or creating labels).
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and training staff.
