Associate-Finance – IBD51517ACSF

Duties: Associate-Finance with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York, NY. Structure senior unsecured, subordinated debt and preferred stock transactions for issuers across industries, including banks, specialty finance and financial technology clients. Analyze the impact of changing regulatory requirements on capital ratios and the financing and capital needs of clients. Communicate (both orally and in writing) with clients, counsel, and financial advisors to execute all parts of a financing including: document review, marketing, pricing and closing. Coordinate with internal groups to obtain approvals necessary to conduct business with corporate entities including: credit, capital committee, legal, compliance. Prepare proposals, presentations and memoranda to pitch financing ideas to clients. Manage live deal execution, including pre-deal investor marketing, running due diligence processes, negotiating legal documents with lawyers and clients, organizing and attending deal roadshows and liaising with other investment banks and other parties within the Investment Banking division. Attend industry specific conferences to meet and interact with new and existing clients and their associates, including counsel and financial advisors. Generate ideas/topics for client meetings with existing clients (e.g. assisting clients in identifying potential markets and financing alternatives) and communicating those ideas with the internal deal teams and representatives of the clients. Lead dialogue when liaising with senior bankers and various product experts throughout the firm. Supervise and coordinate the work of analysts/more junior members of the deal team; supervise and coordinate the training of summer interns and new analysts. Coordinate work and schedules with senior members of the deal team. Prioritize tasks in order to meet conflicting deadlines for various unrelated deal teams.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in investment banking. Prior work experience must include: understanding of the capital structures for different industries including financial institutions, and the ability to analyze financial statements and credit metrics for bank, specialty finance and aircraft lessor clients; understanding of the regulatory environment for different industries and jurisdictions, and its impact on the clients’ financing and capital needs; knowledge of fixed income markets and debt pricing models and building blocks in order to advise clients on: (i) structuring, pricing and relative valuation considerations for individual deals (including an analysis of the arbitrage across currencies), and (ii) structuring of annual funding programs across products and currencies; modeling the relative costs/benefits of various fixed income instruments, including refinancing and rate risks, tax considerations, and currency considerations; experience communicating complex analyses to clients; engaging with and advising clients on acquisition financing considerations (including bridge and take out debt financing); experience preparing client presentations in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for corporate clients to showcase detailed analysis and pitch recommendation, as well as for deal execution processes; executing fixed income deals over $500mm across the capital structure for U.S. and Canadian issuers, (from any pre-deal preparation to pricing); experience running the investor marketing process for clients (both, regular-way and deal-specific) including identifying target investors, assisting with investor marketing materials, Net Roadshow presentations and Q&A preparation, and consolidation of feedback; experience with Microsoft Excel including detailed logic and finance formulas, data tables, filters, and pivot tables to reference and analyze large quantities of data and facilitate financial analysis; experience working on Bloomberg, specifically fixed income securities; present to senior executives such as the CFO and Treasurers of clients on capital markets and financing alternatives.
