Assistant Software and Applications Developer

Job Description:
Serves as a contractor for Albany Law School. All job duties will be performed for both The Sage Colleges and Albany Law School

Performs programming required to created and/or maintain enhancements to Colleague software systems as needed.

Confers with administrators and users regarding desired enhancements to the Colleague software system, which include providing technical expertise and recommendations with regard to business processes and how Colleague software may support such processes.

Works directly with end-users and other IT Services staff to track, troubleshoot and resolve Colleague software and Colleague interface issues and problems.

Writes and reviews technical and end-user related documentation

Assists with analysis of vendor patches prior to their installation in Colleague software systems; coordinates the installation of Colleague vendor patches and system upgrades with users for both Albany Law School and The Sage Colleges.

Assists with systems administration of Colleague software modules, Colleague user security, custom systems and third party systems that interface with Colleague’s software systems, including Colleague, WebAdvisor, Self-Service, eTranscripts, Ethos, TMS, Business Objects, Informer, Source 4, Ellucian Portal, Unified Portal, CashNet and Send Word Now and any others that may be purchased in the future.

Assists with necessary and emergency support services during evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary to support information needs of the students and staff for both institutions; Albany Law School and The Sage Colleges.

Attends training and consulting classes as needed to advance knowledge of and the ability to support the Colleague software and development environment.

Acts in backup capacity during absence of other MIS personnel to solve problems or provide support to users.

Supports systems and projects at Sage and ALS

Other duties as assigned to support Albany Law School and The Sage Colleges institutional needs

Requirements:
Associates degree or higher in computer science, information systems or related information technology field. Three or more years of related and progressively more responsible system administration including experience overseeing moderately, complex and/or critical information technology projects, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.

Basic understanding of database structures and software principles are required

A knowledge of SQL, Java, .net, and C# is required

Ability to learn PC and 3rd party software to facilitate interfaces from Colleague to outside packages.

Ability to work independently.

Demonstrated working knowledge of programming methods and aptitude for learning programming languages.

Demonstrate an understanding of system analysis and design; developing, understanding, and documenting workflow processes.

Working knowledge of relational database administration.

Proficiency in Word and Excel

Understanding of Google applications is plus but not required

Willingness to be a team member.

Exceptional organizational skills required

Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences

Experience with SQL and/or Unidata preferred but not required

Colleague envision programming experience is preferred but not required

Travel between Albany and Troy campuses is required
