Assistant Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking to strengthen our Bridges and Rail Civil Structures team, focusing on:

• Bridge and rail civil engineering design, both in the UK and overseas
• Bridge management
• Bridge replacement, strengthening and repair
• Bridge inspections and assessments
• General civil and structural engineering support to other teams.

The Bridges team is busy with highway and rail bridge and civil engineering work for a variety of clients, including local authorities, contractors, private developers and public sector clients.

Current work includes inspection and assessment, feasibility studies, and design of bridges and railway civil engineering schemes.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in bridges and railway civil engineering. The person appointed will be placed under an approved ICE Training Agreement, and supported to achieve Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. Additional support can be provided to pursue Membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers if desired.

Core Functions:

The successful candidate will be accountable to a Senior or Principal Engineer.

The main technical requirements of the role include:

• Providing technical input to projects
• Carrying out bridge inspections and assessments
• Preparing technical reports and feasibility studies

About You

It is anticipated that you will have a MEng in Civil and/or Structural Engineering degree and have some relevant post-graduate experience in Railways and Bridges Projects. You should also have:

• Sound technical skills and willingness to learn.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• A flexible approach is required and a willingness to work outside of normal working hours when undertaking railway inspections / surveys.
• Full UK driving licence.
