ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDENT INVOLVEMENT & LEADERSHIP

To serve as a member of the leadership team within the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. To assist with the planning, development, coordination and assessment of annual leadership and service programs and related services.

The person in this role will be the leading force in the creation in the leadership curriculum for our student leaders within the Student Involvement office. The person in this role will be required to work closely with the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership as well as with the Assistant Director for Fraternity Sorority Life. The Assistant Director for Leadership and Service is a full-time professional staff member reporting to the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership. S/he will assist the Director with implementation and assessment of leadership and service programs and resources within the office of Student Involvement and Leadership.

In this role, he or she will supervise two coordinators in the Student Affairs Specialists II role overseeing the areas of Leadership Development and Civic Engagement. The person in this role will assist with the planning, development, coordination and assessment of annual leadership and service programs including, but not limited to, Leadership Foundations, Lead on Demand, TedxUAB, Fall Leadership Retreat, Winter Leadership Conference, Into the Streets, MLK Day of Service, Blazers on Break, Student Excellence Awards, Undergraduate Student Government and the Inter-Organizational Council (IOC). The Assistant Director for Leadership and Service will advise the UAB Ambassadors, who serve as the official hosts and hostesses of the university

The Assistant Director for Leadership and Service will oversee the selection and distribution process of all scholarships that fall under Student Involvement and Leadership. A successful candidate will collaborate closely with other areas within the University on leadership programming, community engagement and campus-wide events. The person in this position will serve as a member of various committees and task forces within the UAB community. A successful candidate should be able to perform administrative duties, including managing an annual programmatic budget and maintaining current website content.

ANNUAL RATE OF PAY:
$48,000.00

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Leadership or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Related experience to include working in a university setting. Knowledge and ability to apply leadership theories, concepts and practices to programs, curriculum instruction, and other activities.

Master’s degree with a concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Leadership or a related field STRONGLY preferred. At least (1) year of related experience with Master’s degree acceptable substitution.

Exemplary organizational skills with a strong emphasis on details. Experience in planning programs and events. Ability to present leadership workshops and training sessions that address character formation. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year. Strong computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Must be willing to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations as a team.
