ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND EQUALIZATION

The Assistant Director supports the Division Director in the execution of all functions of the Division of Assessment and Equalization in assistance and service to the Wayne County Commission as its county equalization department and technical advisor in fulfillment of successful performance of its statutory county equalization obligation.

Responsibilities:

  • To serve as chief of staff to the Division Director in implementing all facets of the General Property Tax Act of the State of Michigan.
  • To appraise and equalize all taxable real and personal property to estimate its true cash value in accordance with all provisions of the Michigan Constitution.
  • To coordinate all financial reporting by the division to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • To guide, direct, and develop all internal division staff and serve as liaison to all external and contractual relationships.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent amount of specific college-level coursework attained through college, universities, and/or professional associations such as International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), Appraisal Institute (AI), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA) .
  • Possess and maintain the State of Michigan assessor certification, “Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer (MAAO), formerly known as Level III Assessing Officer).
  • Minimum of five years of assessment administration, including experience as an assessor and experience in Equalization.
