Assistant Controller

The Role

The Assistant Controller is responsible for the Accounting operations of LOF-REIT including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, monitor hotel cash flow, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reporting on numerous hotels across the country and a related REIT entities.
  • Execute the general accounting functions including monthly close, account reconciliations, monthly reporting and analysis.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate cash flow for the hotels.
  • Communicate effectively with the CEO, CFO and staff on the timely completion of projects.
  • Complete projects and special assignments by establishing objectives; determining priorities; managing time; gaining cooperation of others; monitoring progress; problem-solving; making adjustments to plans.
  • Maintain and advance job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Assume full responsibility for directing special assignments, financial statements and reports.
  • Improve quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes, implementing changes when needed.
  • Review financial statements to ensure they are suitable for presentation and disclosure.
  • Assist in the resolution of tax and accounting issues as needed.
  • Be a resource for staff questions.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities for employees.
  • Delegate projects to employees while ensuring the projects progress and overall success.

Required Skills and Experience

  • BA or BS Accounting degree required.
  • Previous experience managing employees required.
  • Self-Starter with ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and the significance of each financial statement.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, modified cash basis and cash basis accounting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
  • Ability to shift and manage multiple priorities.
  • Results driven focus and ability to work through to completion in a timely manner.
  • Adaptable to change.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include, but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • High level of flexibility regarding overtime during times busy periods as required by the business
