AS/400 Warehouse Management Systems Programmer I

Purpose:

The role of WMS Programmer I will be expected to provide full life cycle development for MTD’s Manhattan WMS system running on an IBM iSeries. The WMS Programmer I will leverage knowledge and experience of business process re-engineering, and technical expertise, to document requirements, define scope and objectives, and work closely with development peers to design and develop systems which meet existing and new business objectives. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with ability to work with various business levels and processes in a cross-functional team environment. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of people, process, and technical skills.

Essential Duties:

  • RPGLE skills
  • SQL (DB2/iSeries) skills
  • Experience with WMS configuration
  • Provide support on technical issues
  • Demonstrate the ability to solve complex programming problems
  • Develop new code and application modifications for MTD”s AS/400 based WMS
  • Manage software development issues including debugging, fixing or escalating as needed
  • Create documentation for future reference, training and support purposes
  • Work in collaboration with a WMS configuration expert to develop, debug, and deploy solutions
  • Business process mapping and re-engineering
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business processes used in MTD distribution facilities
  • Able to handle the rigors of a fast paced manufacturing and distribution environment
  • Work independently and with clients to define concepts and processes for efficient utilization of technology.
  • Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans.
  • Ability to decipher between technology and process gaps.
  • Proven ability to create positive customer outcomes

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience in a manufacturing and distribution environment working on an AS/400 based system
  • Strong strategic skills with ability and vision to map out and reengineer business processes, using best practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, production operators, and subject matter experts
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and foster collaborative relationships
  • Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to understand application development methods
  • Strong understanding of various problem solving methodologies
  • Knowledge of distribution, and understanding of the changing retail environment

Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications but Not Required:

  • Experience with Mark Magic or other label generation software
  • FTP/XML/HTTP experience

Work Environment:

One of: Valley City, OH; Nashville, TN; Tupelo, MS; Martin, TN; Tempe, AZ; Shelby, AZ; Will also consider remote option

Travel:

5% travel domestically; occasional international travel
