WILMA magazine and Greater Wilmington Business Journal are looking for an Art Director/Graphic Designer to join its team.

The Art Director plays a critical role in creating and continuously improving the visual identity of the media properties through the print publications, digital offerings and a range of events.

The person in this position works closely with the editorial, sales and events departments, laying out the publications and designing marketing and event materials.

Responsibilities for the position include:

Publication-related

  • Layout of WILMA (monthly) and the Business Journal (bi-weekly) editorial pages
  • Work with freelance photographers and illustrators on assignments and provide initial art direction for photoshoots
  • Participate in weekly editorial meetings
  • Create page maps for GWBJ and WILMA, working with sales and editorial to make sure all ads and space are accounted for
  • Color-correcting and resizing of images for print and web
  • Communicate with printers for page counts, special sections and other issues
  • Pre-flight, pdf, upload and approve publication pages
  • Help oversee ad designer and assist with overflow in the creation of client ads
  • Update and create sales sheets, media kits and other marketing materials as needed.

Events-related

  • Work with Events Manager to determine promotions calendar and design graphic needs for digital (including email templates and graphics, social media, web) and print campaigns and event signage
  • Manage printer relationships for event signage from file set-up to proofing to receipt of goods
  • Manage design and posting of social media promotions
  • Ability to write email/marketing copy a plus

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Expert knowledge of Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), on a Mac platform
  • Able to understand the aesthetic for each market and design accordingly
  • Deadline driven and detail oriented
  • Great communicator, able to keep co-workers informed on different projects
  • Comfortable with social media tools, email platforms and website CMS systems
  • Prior publication background a major plus
