The Opportunity
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a passionate and driven individual to join our team as an Application Engineer. As an SEL Application Engineer, you will be the bridge that serves both the product development team and the industry, ensuring our products continue to solve the problems of tomorrow! You will be a product expert, developing the product as well as providing tools and resources for training and teaching others how our products best serve the industry. This position is located at SEL’s headquarters in Pullman, WA or our SEL Boise field office in Idaho. Both locations provide the opportunity to work side-by-side with members of the Research and Development team in developing the future of wired network solutions.
Application Engineer
Responsibilities:

  • Train SEL field technical support staff (internal and external) on R&D products and technologies.
  • Maintain an understanding of industry technology and SEL products.
  • Author service bulletins, application literature, instruction manuals, and data sheets.
  • Perform competitive analysis. Develop project use cases.
  • Establish and perform validation testing.
  • Create product demonstrations.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals and commercial bids.
  • Contribute to existing and new product specifications.
  • Perform special studies and tests as needed by customers.
  • Participate in SEL sales and marketing activities and industry technical meetings and conferences.
  • Continuously identify, measure, follow and improve application engineering processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of networking communications and the different technologies, the advantages and disadvantages of each technology, and the networking technology trends
  • Understanding of Ethernet, Internet Protocol, network appliances, cybersecurity, trust management, network management processes, and network troubleshooting
  • Excellent technical training, speaking, documentation, and writing skills
  • Willingness to travel 25%
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)
