Applications Developer I

Application Support

  • Assist with the administration and support of web and client applications in a distributed multi-server environment.
  • Monitor web-based application offering regularly for problems, outdated information and adherence to standards. Provide reports to management.
  • Communicate customer feedback to colleagues and management.
  • Recommend site enhancements and identifies solutions to problems.
  • Evaluate new project requests. Design, build, code test and deploy the applications. Maintain existing applications.
  • Implement best coding practices and mentor student developers to understand current software design patterns coding guidelines.

Customer Support

  • Serve as a contact person regarding the use of departmental web-based applications, answer questions, and diagnose and resolve customer problems.
  • Educate customers on issues related to the departmental web-based applications including accessibility and other site standards, current and new web technologies.
  • Develop methods to facilitate web-based application maintenance for customers.
  • Develop online and printed documentation for the departmental web-based application servers.
  • Serve as a customer advocate in the planning processes.
  • Work with the HDS Helpdesk (ResNet)or/and K-State IT helpdesk to track customer problems and resolutions, and to measure customer satisfaction.

Team Development

  • Assist in mentoring, training, hiring and evaluating a multi-person web development team comprised of hourly student staff.
  • Participate in preparing goals and coordinate strategies for developing and supporting HDS web-based application offering.
  • Makes measurable contributions to software development efforts.

Enterprise Security

  • Provide innovative suggestions to improve existing processes or implement new security measures to improve the security posture of the enterprise.
  • Participates as a team member to implement new or updated security measures.
  • Monitor compliance with information security policies and procedures, referring problems to supervisor.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CIS, business administration or related field
  • 3 years experience as an application developer or web developer
  • Programming experience with PHP, SQL, ASP .NET, XHTML, CSS, XML and with jQuery and JavaScript libraries
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in project management; research, planning, development, implementation and support
