JOB SUMMARY

The candidate is responsible for overseeing and leading all aspects of the Unix/Linux shared systems and related architectures including support and care of existing Unix/Linux systems. Design and build of new systems, working closely with shared services teams, applications teams and business units to meet support and project goals. The position is also responsible for managing the staff responsible for all aspects of Unix/Linux shared systems support, design and implementations. Ensures staffing levels to effectively support a 24/7 operation.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related field; or equivalent experience

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX certification required

EXPERIENCE*

  • Two to four years leadership experience in IT support organization
  • Three to five years’ experience in server virtualization technologies utilizing Linux Red Hat, IBM AIX, and VMware
  • Experience in hardening, patching, testing and monitoring systems against security threats
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent projects, and support initiatives in a dynamic environment subject to impromptu changes in schedules and priorities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Five to seven years’ experience in a technical support position in a Unix/Linux and/or EPIC Cache environment
  • Experience in a healthcare environment with Epic Systems
  • ITIL v3 Certification

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Oversees team of UNIX/Linux and EPIC Interconnect Caché engineers.
  • Maintains remote management of systems (VPN, Phone Home, KVM, etc.).
  • Audits and remediates shared systems for security hardening, patching and testing.
  • Completes remediation on Security Assessments and Audits.
  • Maintains shared systems hardware and software maintenance agreements.
  • Monitors system performance across all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains Asset and Life Cycle Management.
  • Active/Active (Zero Downtime) Strategic Direction on System’s Design and Implementation.
  • Manage/Monitor and Optimize Service Desk Management ticketing for areas responsible.
  • Assist with daily operational and project related technical tasks.
  • Validates and remediates all shared systems for best practice configuration and design and that the systems perform HA/DR processes (Snap Shots, Cloning, Backups/Restores, HA Failover etc.).
  • Preserves Shared Systems by designing/building and implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures to include Roles and Responsibilities, Liaison with the Clinical application teams for Continuity of Plan, Communications Plans, Monitor Performance and Optimize, Lead Periodic dry run/table top exercise, Document process and procedures and information security and control structures. (Performed as required for efficient and effective recovery and or based on identified RTO/RPO objectives).
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies for improving system and application performance, maintaining technology roadmaps and system version controls.
  • Function as a Technical Support project liaison, ensuring effective transition from project pre-implementation to go-live to day-to-day support.
  • Reviews/builds support processes, policies, and procedures to ensure proper communication, documentation, and training for Technical Support.
  • Participate in after-hours support as part of the on-call rotation.
  • Provide ad hoc, third tier support escalation for other on-call support staff.
  • Assist Supervisor and/or Manager with development of staff by: being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks, providing on the job training to team, and seeking out opportunities to become actively involved in staff workflow and development.
  • Provide Supervisor and/or Manager feedback on staff performance, educational needs, and workflow status.
  • SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

    Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

    Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
